AUSTIN, TEXAS, SEPTEMBER 15, 2015. On Monday, September 14,over 80 golfers drove the green while investing in long-term solutions to improve quality of life for communities around the world. The annual Aga Khan Foundation Golf Austin tournament was held at the University of Texas Golf Club. As an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), the golf tournament raises awareness and funds for programs that mobilize communities around the world to build better futures.
Austin’s 2014 golf tournament raised nearly $135,000, and organizers expected this year’s event to raise more, given enthusiasm from golfers and sponsors across the metro area including national sponsor The Coca Cola Company. 100 percent of net proceeds from the tournament go directly to projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation.
The charity tournament attracted high-level corporate executives, civic leaders, and local celebrities. Golfers help communities in some of the poorest areas of Africa and Asia improve their quality of life. Contributions make a tremendous impact in creating locally driven opportunities for girls in Afghanistan to attend school, farmers in Mali to feed their families, and mothers in India to lead healthy lives. These efforts that build flourishing economies are the cornerstones of a thriving community. To learn more about the Aga Khan Foundation’s approach and impact visit www.akfusa.org.
