In the rugged Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) of Tajikistan, stones are an abundant and overlooked resource. With the right support and encouragement, a small company has been able to transform what many dismiss as worthless into a booming business.

Suman Pamir Stone LLC specializes in stone products for interiors, facades, and landscape design. Their zero-waste production system provides natural alternatives to standard building materials like asphalt and cement.

In 2020, the company realized it needed to relocate and modernize the stone-cutting factory to be able to reduce costs and meet new production needs.

Suman Pamir Stone secured financing from the Accelerate Prosperity Program through USAID and AKF under Local Impact.

The funds were used to set up the new factory, relocate equipment, and transfer all operations to the new site in Khorog. The funds also allowed the company to streamline their production processes and position themselves to capitalize on growing market demand.

The relocation and expansion created 26 new jobs, contributing to the region’s economic development. Suman Pamir has already secured a major contract and is regularly invited to bid on projects elsewhere in the region.

Support from USAID and AKF through Accelerate Prosperity continues. Post-investment services include training and continuous monitoring of production expansion to help the company scale up.

Suman Pamir Stone has become a beacon for other businesses in the GBAO region, showing that strategic planning, effective use of resources, and the right support, are keys to success.
